The Bridal Shower is scheduled for Saturday and I am in full motion. As I discussed earlier, the theme is Breakfast at Tiffany's, which means the mod chicness of the 1960's, bold graphics, fun fashion and plenty of bling.
I normally use buffet markers to identify the food being served, especially if anything contains nuts. However my silver crown markers did not fit this theme. Since I am using pocketbooks and shoes in my tablescape design, I thought I could use some little shoe ornaments to do the job.
Now these garish little beauties were a Christmas Tree Shop find about 5 years ago, in fact an after Christmas sale of $.10 cents apiece. I used to have about 40 of them. The pink ones were on my Victorian Tree and the rest I used as gift packages toppers.
I had just boxed them up in January and had put them in my designated lawnsale closet to be sold this summer.
After taking over an hour digging through the boxes, I finally retrieved them. (This always happens. As soon as I put something out for the lawnsale, I need it.)

I pulled off the feathers and ribbons and armed with Krylon Chrome spray paint, a brand new can bought at Goodwill for $.99 cents, you can see the blue sticker on the can, I began the transformation of the shoes.

Next I used my tag punch, black and white scrapbook paper, and wired silver roses (a bag of them found at Goodwill for $.50 cents), for making my menu tags.

There was a metal loop at the back of each shoe for originally hanging the ornament. The flower stem fit perfectly in the loop to hold the tag in place.
And to think that I almost let these little beauties go.
Many of you have asked what is on the menu, so here it is.
- Mimosas, Ice Tea and Punch
- Fruit Platter with Dip
- Waldorf Chicken Salad
- Cornbread Muffin Sandwiches with Turkey and Cranberry Mustard

P.S. Please forgive me for not responding to your recent kind comments. I have been a little out straight getting ready for the shower. I promise to do a proper visit to all when things slow down this week. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Yesterday did not start out well. I had gone all winter without the slightest sniffle, and after a string of beautiful sunny days in the 70's, with a sigh of relief, I knew that winter was finally over. So I really was not pleased to awake with a full fledged cold ..... sore throat and runny nose. Nope, I was not a happy camper. Being self-employed I unfortunately can not call out sick as my employees were waiting for me. I diligently trudged through the morning's business at hand and then left to go check my mail at home...... and there it was........... a package of good cheer, my giveaway prize from April @Adventures with the Abramyans. Receiving that package was the best and tastiest medicine I could have had. I eagerly tore off the wrapping and began to pull out all my goodies. I was giddy with delight (or maybe it was the cold medicine kicking in).
First there was a lovely card from April congratulating me along with an adorable I Love Lucy Apron and a Rich Red Velvet Cupcake mix. How did she know that Red Velvet was my favorite cake, and this just wasn't Red Velvet it was Rich Red Velvet? I was in heaven and feeling better by the moment. Just picture my gumdrop red roses perched atop these cupcakes. Yum Yum.
Next were these pretty little photo albums and box of jasmine soap. The fragrance is lovely as is the little butterflies with a bit of bling on the top. Really the soap was two gifts in one, what was inside the box and the pretty box itself.
My most favorite piece was the gorgeous necklace. I just love the naturalness from the stone piece to the bright punch of red, it is absolutely fabulous. I am wearing it as I speak. Sure I had to press the perfect shirt, to make the perfect outfit, to wear today, to match this perfect necklace, but it was worth getting out the ironing board. (Yes that is a rare occurrence for me, that is why I buy tumble dry only.)
I wanted to share with everyone a BIG THANK YOU to April at Adventures with the Abramyans. Please be sure to visit her blog and meet her delightful family. I love the motto displayed on her blog banner, "No matter how long the winter, Spring is sure to follow" Positive thinking. A good thought to live by ...... I am feeling better all ready. Thank you April.
One last reminder about my giveaway. It ends tomorrow and a winner will be chosen at 5:00 p.m. EST. (I had recently moved the date up to the 10th.) Anyone who is a follower automatically gets a chance, if you left a comment on the giveaway post, you get a second chance, and a third chance for posting the giveaway on your blog. Thank you to all that entered. It was fun. I have added a few more things to the giveaway including a dozen yo-yo's all pink of course. Good luck to all who enter.
Have a great day.

Today is a very rainy Tuesday. It is cold and wet; however, I am heartened by seeing my yard slowly go from brown to green. I haven't dared to think about my garden yet, I know we are still good for another snow storm or two, but at least it is now officially Spring. I am looking forward to my Garden Club meeting this week, as we will now have lots to share. As co-hostess of this month's meeting, I wanted to do something special and what better recipe for a garden club than flowers and dirt. So today I am participating at Tuesdays at the Table with our hostess Cole at All the Small Stuff to showcase how to make edible flowers.
A couple of weeks ago, I found a wonderful recipe for "dirt". It had been posted by Janet at Stuff I Think About for that week's entry at Tuesdays at the Table. Please click here to view. Her recipe went beyond crushed Oreo cookies and was sophisticated enough to serve at a garden theme luncheon and not just a kid's Halloween party with gummy worms. I wrote to her about how my edible flowers would compliment her dirt and she wrote back asking for directions. Here they are.
I remember helping my mother make these gumdrop roses when I was only 10. These were really popular on cakes in the 70's. They really are simple to make although a tad messy. But that is what makes them fun.
You start with a bag of gumdrops, I usually look for a bag with lots of red ones, a personal preference. For these roses I actually used jelly slices instead of gumdrops and thought they would work the same. They did; however, I had to roll them thinner to make them pliable and then they would stick to the table. Gumdrops are easier to manage, to cut, to roll out and to form the roses, so better to use gumdrops.

First I slice each piece into 3 sections (vertically).
Next I place each cut side down onto sugar to coat which helps keep the candy from sticking to the surface when being rolled out.

After you have rolled out your pieces, you then begin to form your rose, the first piece tightly curled to form the center, then another slice on the outside to form a petal, followed by a third slice, slightly overlapping the other piece to form another petal. You can they play around with the petals to position them just right. It helps to keep dipping your fingers into sugar to keep the gumdrops from sticking to you. Each rose uses just one gumdrop cut into 3 pieces for the 3 petals.
Next I take 2 slices of a green gumdrop, rolled out, they form the leaves at the base of the rose.
Here is a picture of the finished project (Only 20 more to make!) They make beautiful cupcake toppers, especially on Red Velvet cupcakes and would be perfect on an Easter or Mother's Day cake.
Please be sure to join our hostess Cole at All the Small Stuff for the other participants today, at Tuesdays at the Table.
I am also linking up with Liz at Hoosier Homemade and the Spring Hop Party, showcasing some fun and tasty Easter goodies. Please be sure to Hop on over there. Click here.
