Sharing a few Thrift Store Finds

I was surprised last week to have received so many comments from folks; themselves being surprised, at just what you can find at Goodwill. As I have shared before, it is easy for me to pop into a Goodwill Store 3 or 4 times a week. So I will admit, if you spend that much time in one of their stores, the odds are good that you will find something. Today, I am sharing a few pics on what I found last Saturday at the brand new Goodwill in South Portland, just one stop, at one store.

Since I am sharing, I am joining Linda @ Coastal Charm for Nifty Thrifty Tuesdays;
Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality for Today's Thrifty Treasures;
and Suzanne @ The Coloradolady for Vintage Thingies Thursday for all my thrifty purchases.
Please click above or see the parties posted on my sidebar to get to their fabulous parties. No invitations or R.S.V.P's needed. Enjoy.

As you see from my banner, I love green. This little creamer was my first purchase and is already on my kitchen shelf with my others. (And yes, I was collecting
Fireking long before Martha Stewart showcased it in her magazine when she was decorating her daughter's apartment with these dishes, and then the prices went through the roof, because every dealer felt that if Martha collects it, we can charge more.)

I was even more excited when I found this platter. It has handles on either side that I accidentally cropped out of the photo, oops. It is about 14 inches across, and yes it is one of my favorite colors. It was on the bottom shelf and topped with a stack of newer plates made in China. I was not expecting to see it marked
Redwing. Probably my best find of the day.

Ironstone for $.99 a piece, need I say more? The little flower plates are marked USA . My plan is to place a little nest and eggs in the center of each plate. At $.50 cents, if they don't turn out well, no real money invested. I just loved the plates simple graphics.

The silver tray and pedestal tray will both be used at the Bridal Shower I am catering on Saturday. Can you ever have too much silver shine? The Pewter tankard was only $.99 and it is engraved Robert and has the clear glass bottom. Nope, I don't know any Robert's but thought it would make a lovely vase.

Once again, you never can have too much glassware. To the far left is a little hot beverage container. It is next to a charming glass creamer. In the back row are 2 tall frosted glasses in the green and pink. I have a large frosted pink bowl that matches these glasses. The other tall glass is really heavy and it reminds me of what you would find in a restaurant for your ice cream floats. I am not sure if it is vintage, but at $.99 it is a thrifty find. The silver rimmed glasses are going to be added to a box of bar glasses that I am collecting for a gift for a friend.

I love this plate. It is a cream/brown flower plate, Johnson Brothers, England.

Two
hand embroidered pillowcases. There are just a few places that still show the printed on design missing the completed stitching. One pillowcase for Ma, the other for PA.

This 3 piece set was in an earlier pic. It has a white lining that you can see is worn in a few spots. The size of the pieces seem a little small to be for regular use and I am wondering if it wasn't part of a toy set. I have started to clean the silver and it is coming out well; however, in this unpolished state, it would look lovely holding a few succulents or moss covered rocks.

Don't you just love the "puppy dog eyes" that this piece has? It isn't ceramic or plaster of
paris, could it be chalkware? This is an area I have no knowledge of, and any help would be appreciated. He will be a gift for my friend whose own dog looks like this charming little fellow. The poodle pin was equally as charming and I won't be wearing it as a pin, but rather incorporating it into a new artistic endeavor.

This was all from only one of far too many trips to Goodwill. I look at it this way (as in rationalize and justify). For the few dollars that I spent, would not even cover the price of admission to a movie, plus popcorn and drink for a night out .... and this was much more fun.

Please be sure to see what every one else is showing today and have fun
thrifting.

Have a great day.
Sherrie

I know you can find great stuff at Goodwill! How do I know? I've been giving them load after load of my great stuff the last 4 months! Happy hunting!

Yes, Martha really did ruin the Fire King collecting for me too! I was picking that stuff up for pennies until she came along. What a bunch of wonderful finds, and I just adore those pillowcases! Since you are a Goodwill expert, maybe you can answer a question that I've had for a while. Do you know if they have someone who knows about antiques doing the pricing at all of the stores? And just curious if you've ever shopped at their online store?
Have a great day!

I love that Johnson Bros plate. I used to collect that pattern, but in blue. It is called, I think, 'country cupboard'. What a great selection of finds...lucky you!

You did well! I really love the Johnson Bros. calico brown plate and the little silver set. You and I would get along great, Sherrie, with the shopping 3 - 4 times a week. Although, I must admit, I'm trying to cut back and currently going just once! I still haven't made the banana bread - shame on me! I'm making it tonight!

Wow! You have found some fabulous finds. You have convinced me I need to go more often to my local GW. Maybe during the summer - we don't have one in my little town.

OK-I never find treasures like that at our Goodwill, never! I am jealous!! I go about 3 times a week. Also, what I do find I think is priced much too high for a thrift store. Must be our location...
But, I do love all of your thrifty finds. :)
Thanks for sharing and maybe, just maybe, I'll hit the jackpot at my GW!
Have a great day~

the GW in my town is not so good, but we have 4 others thrift stores, the Salvation Army is the worst but the other 3 are cleaner with better stuff.

Before I joined some thrift lists and began reading thrift and vintage blogs, I never paid much attention to the disware aisles at GW and other thrift stores. Now I head there first!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Glad the paint tip was helpful.

Martha Stewart is too influential, I think. Everything she collects goes up into the stratosphere!

I enjoyed looking through your blog and I will be back! Please visit me again, too.

Our Goodwill stores need to talk to yours about pricing. Our thrifts in Nashville are so expensive. It doesnt' matter who runs them. You do good girl. I love the redwing and of course the fire king. Thanks for visiting junkblossoms. Hope you'll visit again soon.

Definitely great finds and at great prices!! I have to go to the Flea Market around here to find those prices which is why I don't visit my GW much anymore.

Re: The games on my VTT post. I think I am going to keep them as is because they are not very common, I would hate to break them up. Originally though they were bought for collage.
